I think the stain is oil.
When the stern gland was a Halyard Marine Oil filled typewaiting for the rubber to perish, it would leak down the prop shaft when Kora was out of the water.

Aluminium Hydrovane upper bracket epoxied in place to take the starboard upper mounting pole. Epoxy contains filler – as directed.
